Do you have a job interview coming up? Great! Preparation is half the work. The good news is that many interviews include similar questions – which means you can prepare your answers in advance. In this blog, we’ll walk you through the most common interview questions and how to answer them.
A job interview is a conversation between a candidate and an employer to determine if there’s a match for the open role. As a candidate, you get the chance to introduce yourself, explain your motivation, and highlight your work experience. At the same time, the employer assesses if you fit the team and have the right skills.
While questions can vary depending on the company, role, or industry, there are several common job interview questions that almost always come up. Let’s go through them one by one.
This is often the very first question you’ll be asked. Employers want to get to know you as a person and see if your personality fits the company culture.
Answer briefly and positively:
Introduce yourself (who you are, where you’re from).
Share hobbies, passions, or goals.
Keep it short, clear, and authentic.
Employers ask this to see if you’re self-aware and reflective. Be honest – weaknesses don’t automatically disqualify you.
Examples of strengths: perseverance, efficiency, attention to detail, critical thinking, loyalty, patience, social skills, independence.
Examples of weaknesses: insecurity, being too critical, impatience, chaotic, difficulty delegating.
Dujob tip: choose weaknesses that can be developed into strengths.
Here’s your chance to convince the employer. Highlight your skills, qualities and experience - and explain how they add value to the team or role. Be confident, but avoid exaggeration.
This question tests your ambitions and whether they align with the company’s future. Think beforehand about your career goals, the skills you want to develop, and where you’d like to be in five years.
Employers want to know why this role (and this company) appeals to you. Show enthusiasm and prepare a clear answer: why this vacancy, why this job, and why this organization.
If you’re already employed, you may hear this question. Stay positive and explain calmly. For example:
You want to grow, but your current job offers no opportunities.
You’re looking for a new challenge.
You want to develop skills in a different environment.
Never speak negatively about your current or previous employer.
